Commonly asked questions:

While every family’s experience is unique, the following are answers to common questions about the experience of custom photography with Proud To Introduce:milwaukeebabyphotographer1

Most questions can be answered similarly for a regular portrait session and a Time and Talent digital file session, however some will only apply for a regular portrait session.

1. How do I schedule my newborn session when I don’t know when my baby will arrive?
- We will tentatively schedule your session for a day around your due date. Obviously, this is just an estimate! We ask that you phone or email us within a few days of having your baby, at which time we will confirm the date and time of your actual session.

2. What does my session fee include?
- If you opt for a Time and Talent digital file session with license to reproduce your own portraits, the session fee and digital image files are all rolled in to one up front fee, which includes the session itself and 20 or 40+ digital JPG image files with release to print unlimited quantities for personal use up to 11×14 in size.
- The session fee for a regular portrait session covers a portion of Allie’s time and expertise photographing your session.  With a regular session, all portraits are ordered after you see your images, with individual pricing beginning at $75 for one 5×7 professionally finished and printed portrait.  With a regular portrait session, the session fee does not include portraits or digital files, everything is ordered 1-2 weeks later, when you view your images.

3. What is the difference between a Time and Talent session and a regular portrait session?
- With a Time and Talent session, you pay only for Allie’s time during your photography session and then processing the best 20 or 40+ images from your session. (20+ images for a 30 minute session or 40+ for a hour-long or a newborn session.)  With a Time and Talent session, the up front fee includes the session and the digital files, no printed portraits. Her approach to either type of session will be exactly the same during your session, and you will receive the same excellent level of service, quality and variety of images either way. The total amount of finances invested is generally lower when a family chooses a Time and Talent session.

4. How can you offer the files so much cheaper in the Time and Talent session?
- The up front fee allows us to plan and forecast for the time and resources utilized after your session. We save time not only in the detail intensive order with our professional lab, but many other ways as well: no online gallery (unless requested), no need to together determine the best dates for your gallery, no emailing personalized instructions about the gallery, no tutorials on how to navigate the gallery, no phone consultations to discuss collections, sizes, finishes, timelines, relatives, out of town orders, re-orders, or gallery re-hosting. We also save time by not needing to place your order with the lab, opening and individually examining the portraits from the lab, reviewing every image, all mounting, or every page of an album, packaging, coordinating pick up or getting orders out for delivery, etc. We’re able to roll the very extensive time savings into a lower up front price. The Time and Talent session must be decided at the time of scheduling your session; the same cost-effective digital file pricing is not available after a regular session takes place. A regular portrait session involves a high level of communication, planning, answering questions, customizing, and in general: a LOT of time and attention. We like to provide the highest level of service! If you don’t desire the printed portraits as the finished product, there is a substantial time savings that we can pass on to you. If you do opt for the Digital Files through a Time and Talent session, you are still welcome to order professionally printed portraits at a discounted rate if you choose.

5. I can’t decide ahead of time I’d want all of the digital files. Why can’t I wait until I see them to decide?
- See #5 above. Once your session is reserved as a regular portrait session, a much higher level of time and attention is allotted for it AFTER your session. The session itself will be conducted exactly the same, and the individual editing will also be done the same. Our allocation of resources varies significantly beyond that point, requiring a greater expense for a regular portrait session. In order for the value of the Time and Talent session to be available, it must be reserved up front for these reasons.  We realize that the initial investment is higher going this route and can offer payment plans when needed.

6. How far in advance should I reserve my session?
- It is best to reserve your newborn session before you are 30 weeks pregnant to ensure availability for your maternity session and then your new baby’s session within those first 10 days.  Family or children’s sessions can be scheduled at your convenience; we generally schedule at least two weeks in advance.

7. I don’t know if I want an in-home or studio session  for my newborn. What’s the difference?
- All newborn sessions last 1-2 hours to accommodate the needs and comfort of your baby. There are no expectations that your newborn will “behave” any certain way. For our signature newborn portraits, it requires time, patience, and a relaxed session. This will happen either at the studio or your home, the choice is yours. In-home sessions are typically more convenient for new parents, and many enjoy incorporating bits of their home environment into the portraits. Ify you have older children, all the more reason to stay home and have Allie come to you!  We travel throughout the Metro-Milwaukee area with a modest travel fee, and travel is available outside of the Milwaukee area for a fee as well.  For a children’s or family session, the choice is yours, based upon the feel that you want your portraits to have.  A more classic portrait feeling will be conveyed from a studio session while an in-home session may be more natural, incorporate more of the environment (either outdoors or at your home) and will be  more customized and personalized.

8. Can I have my newborn photographed if I did not reserve a session while I was pregnant?
- Certainly! You are always welcome to call the studio to check on availability! We will do our best to accommodate your newborn session as soon as possible.

9. What if I am in the hospital for a week or more, after having my baby?
- This is not an uncommon situation; we will certainly accommodate your session at whatever point you and your baby are available for your portrait session.

10. How does the process work?
- For a regular portrait session, 1-2 weeks after your session, your images will be individually edited by hand and ready for your viewing. We’ll schedule your online gallery’s 4 day period during 4 days that work for you, and you may place your order either online or over the phone. Your portraits will be ready within 2-4 weeks. The Time and Talent sessions are simple: within 2-10 days after your session, 24-30+ digital JPG files, all individually processed and finished for printing, will be emailed to you. We simply ask that you download and save them and confirm that they all came through for you.

11. For a regular session, how long do I have to decide what I’d like to order?
- Your order will be due while your gallery is online during our pre-determined four day period. Beyond that, your images will be archived, incurring fees to retrieve. This is necessary to maintain a reasonable workflow timeline and process in order to provide quality service to all families.

12. For a regular session, what if I can not decide during the four days?
- We always hope to have a phone consultation while your images are online to assist in your decision making process and answer any questions that you have about images, sizes, finishes, etc. We are here to help you make the best decisions to fit your needs and your home’s design. If you find yourself unable to decide, all images may be archived for a weekly fee of $95 for up to 8 weeks.

13. Are all images retained and available for reorder?
- The images that you select to purchase are archived and available for one year. It is not feasible to maintain images that were not desired to purchase.

14. What can I expect to invest in a regular newborn portrait session, if I don’t get the Time and Talent session?
- While there is a studio minimum order of $400 for a newborn session, most clients typically invest in a variety of 8×10 and 5×7 portraits, and at least one portrait for the wall and/or an album for their newborn portraits. Portraits can be ordered a-la carte or in a collection; our collections do offer savings over the a-la carte rates and begin at $595 for a variety of images and sizes; session albums or keepsake collections that include several portraits, or collections consisting of larger portraits or several images varying sizes begin at $1290. Individual small portraits begin at $75 (5×7) and individual wall portraits begin at $185. Birth announcements begin at $80 per set of 25.

15. What can I expect to spend on a maternity session?
- The amount typically invested in a maternity session on your portraits can range from just $300 or so on up, depending on what you are looking for. The minimum order of $300 for a 1 hour session applies for maternity sessions as well. Our most popular maternity collection is $730. Often, maternity sessions are used to document not only your pregnancy but also to celebrate your relationship with other members of the family, before your baby arrives. Many families opt for the 30-minute digital file session for a maternity session.

16. What should we wear?
- This depends a bit on YOU!  If you are looking for more of a classic, timeless look choose simple and classic clothing.  Avoid stripes, plaids, and instead, choose outfits that have some subtle detail.  Everyone should wear the same type of pants, either jeans or khaki’s, but not some of each.  Little girls are wonderful in skirts and dresses!  White is not ideal, but creams and neutrals, earthy tones or spring/fall colors are wonderful.  If you are instead opting for a more bold or trendy look, go for layers, bold, deep colors, and fun textures.  Add in accessories (a tie or a hat for a little boy, fun scarves or hats or a necklace for a little girl) and some attitude!
- For a newborn session, it is usually best to wear something plain, dark, long sleeved, and not too low cut.  Avoid deep v-neck shirts and zippers.  Also bring a more casual and natural shirt if you’d like to change- a lighter colored (off white or neutral photograph well) cami and/or fitted t-shirt.

17. Do you offer framing?
- At this time we have streamlined our efforts into providing the best possible service and turnaround time for your photography session and delivering the finished product, whether digital files or printed portraits.  We do not offer custom framing at this time but can happily recommend many area framers and off-the-shelf frames that complement our artwork.

18. Do you offer consultations?
- Yes. Most families prefer to consult over the phone, however if you are not familiar with the quality of our work in print, you are welcome to schedule an in person consultation.
