Ahhh….
I admit: I am enamored with sun flare.
Some flare is so pretty, it just encompasses the whole image and frames it beautifully and perfectly…
And some (first 2 below) flare is not exactly subtle, but just adds so much interest to the composition of the image.
And then images with flare like the thumbnail below… pretty subtle but absolutely scrumptious.
I get questions about this sometimes. How do you get it? Do you know it’s happening? Why does it happen…? To answer the questions that many clients may wonder but perhaps only few actually ask…
It IS intentional, for certain! I work hard to get the flare *just* right in my lens before capturing the moment. It happens simply due to the sun’s position and how the light hits my lens. It seems that all lenses are a little different when it comes to what the lens does with the streaks of light, and I just love figuring it out and getting it right. Usually, I have to move around bit by bit and find just the right direction. It’s fairly common (and much less impossible) to accomplish flare with low, low light, which is why evening sessions are just fantastic right now.
