Mother’s day is coming! In the past, we have done limited edition events with Arrival’s Maternity boutique in Delafield, quite a way west of Milwaukee, however with the beautiful new studio, in a more central location on Capitol in Brookfield’s Stonewood Village, and with the delicious natural light that pours in, we’ve decided to have this event in the studio.

This event will be fairly intimate; it is by invitation. My favorite clients from the past few years should have received their email invitation by now; some whom I have not seen in a while, some that I have seen pretty recently. I am looking forward to seeing everyone! If it does not fill up within a few days, I’ll be opening it up and will post updates here.

Here are a few beautiful images that could be expected of this event…. these few here pull at my heart so much. It’s so important to capture connections and beauty like this.

The focus and approach for this special portrait event is much different than it has been in the past. It is artistically based on a very simple and pure concept… the relationship that a mother has with each of her amazing children… something we may not often think to document in this beautiful way, yet something very worth experiencing and capturing.

I am so excited to have the opportunity to document your relationships… it is my pleasure and honor to create such special and treasured portraits for you. I look forward to hearing from some of you soon! Have a wonderful day today.

Children’s photography is an amazing thing. Children are so moody, so up and down, and the greatest thing is that they don’t really fake their emotions. This very insightful image of this beautiful girl was one of the very first images from this family’s photography session in Menomonee Falls a few weeks ago:

And this was one of the last.

Somewhere in the middle, we managed this peaceful moment during an otherwise not-so-peaceful, wild and crazy, fun session…

And here is just one more absolute favorite image from my sweet boy (posted others of him here.)

That’s all for now. Have a wonderful night.

I recently photographed this adorable baby boy… I did not travel on location for this session, this sweet 7 month old came in to the studio!

He is such a joy to photograph, just loves his mommy so much… stares at her, smile and coos at her- he is so very precious.  And his mother adores every little inch of him so much; they’re quire the adorable mother and child to photograph!  Look at these beautiful eyes…

It was not easy to choose only a few images to post here… there are so many great ones of course!

2 months ago… I worried a bit about having enough variety for in-studio sessions, however the more I do, the more and more I enjoy photographing little ones here in the studio.  It is a different experience to not go into a home, and not have the adventure of finding just the right light, the nicest background, and most interesting textures and surroundings, but this is fun and challenging in other ways.  Keeping every session fresh and new… the natural light here is so amazing.  Thanks for the wonderful session, S!

I am quite familiar with families who have all boys as children! It seems I photograph far more boys than girls for some reason. When initially speaking with someone new, and I’m told that they have 2, 3, or 4 sons… I can relate! I am a boy mom myself and imagine that I always will be, it’s just what I picture in life. Children are so wonderful, and having them does amazing things to us as moms, and parents, doesn’t it? Here is one family with three gorgeous boys. I traveled to Wauwatosa to photograph these children, these adorable and energetic brothers!

And to put it mildly, their parents are THE greatest. So much fun, so relaxed and sweet… they enjoy those boys so very much!

Congratulations to this family for having one more beautiful child!  I went into Milwaukee and photographed this pregnant mom just 7 days before she had her baby.  Here are a few of just the perfect belly… I will post a few more maternity images with big sisters and the new baby soon!

Just a quick post to let you know that the Milwaukee public radio interview on WUWM on infant bereavement professional photography will be airing in the 10:00 hour today (very soon!) and if you miss it, it will be available to hear online here.

You have to click “enter site” after the new donor page, and you may need to set up how you listen, on the yellow button on the top that says ‘listen.’

I found out this morning that the radio interview on NILMDTS and Infant Remembrance Photography is taped, it is not live, and will air sometime Tuesday, some time between 10 and 11 am.

In the meantime, here are a few more images from that family session that I posted below. What a beautiful family to photograph.

Having portraits done takes a lot of work! Here’s the final shot of the day, hanging out in their gorgeous kitchen for a snack. :)

I am so honored to be a Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep photographer for Milwaukee area families in this sad situation.  Providing remembrance photographs of infants to grieving families is an incredible honor.  One that takes a heavy toll on my heart, but is always worth it in the end, considering that images are all that a family has left to hold after their baby is no longer on this earth.  This Monday at 12:30, I am joining another photographer from Kenosha, WI at the Milwaukee Public Radio studio in downtown milwaukee for a radio interview on infant remembrance photography. As you may know, I do this type of work (click on “giving back” above or on the main website for info), and have conducted a few sessions recently that have moved me deeply, and this continues to be an amazingly wonderful gift, an incredible way to share my talent with those in the worst of situations.

Infant remembrance photography, specifically NILMDTS has gotten a lot of attention in the press lately, both locally around Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and nationally. 2 Sundays ago, there was a front page article on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Earlier this week, there was a story on the Today show, watch it here: Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep: Infant Remembrance Photography on the Today Show. On Monday, Kenosha studio photographer Sarah Baldwin and I are being interviewed for an MPR program.

Although I’m admittedly not very familiar with how exactly it all works with public radio, I assume it will be on the air at 12:30 “live” (right?), although don’t hold me to this. If I find out for certain, I will post, however please tune in to 89.7 MPR to hear us.

As a professional photographer for newborns, maternity, babies and children in Waukesha and Milwaukee counties, I love what I do every day. Happy, vibrant, healthy, amazing children are a blessing, to say the least. Yet offering professional photography to families in this terrible situation is such an incredible thing to do and I love to do it, to be able to help in such a small, small way. Having a baby is such a life altering moment, and losing that baby is just beyond imaginable… but the photographs, the tangible “things” to hold when a baby is gone… it’s healing, and sadly- it’s sometimes all there is. It’s something we all hope to never ever ever have to need, nor know someone who needs it. But it’s available. And I want people to know that. What families do with the images, how often or how soon they do or do not look at them- is up to them, but at least they’re there, to remember, and to know it all really did happen, in the blur of the moments. There is never a charge for this service, and the family will promptly receive the disc of image files and some prints.

After my second experience with one of these sessions, when the sweet baby passed on hours after I photographed her, I was so upset, it was just so painful- and I asked my good friend Chris Plamann, another local photographer who does this work, “does it get easier?” She replied that it does not. I asked, “how can we do it then?” To which she replied: “I try to think of the pain as carrying a small portion of the burden for the families who are left grieving.” It’s so true, so insightful- that one sentence.

If you ever know of anyone experiencing a loss, please think of infant remembrance photography. The simple mention of it may prove to be extremely helpful. Contacting NILMDTS is one way to gain access to a huge network of photographers. Anyone may also contact me directly in these situations. There is never a charge for these services.

Thanks for reading this. Hope you’re able to tune in to 89.7 MPR on Monday at 12:30.

… than two beautiful sisters and an adorable, sweet, snuggly little brother?  Add in beautiful parents, a gorgeous home… and we have an amazing session.  I recently traveled to Oconomowoc, WI to photograph these children, this beautiful family of five.  Every photography session is special for it’s own reasons… this one was beautiful because of how sweet, kind, and loving this family was.  You could just *feel* it.  They enjoyed each other’s company so much- it was a wonderful session.  I usually feel strongly about a few images as being enlarged and custom framed beautifully as wall portraits… this time, there are well over a dozen worthy of wall portrait status!  Here are just a few.  :)

I need to get  more of these processed and post some more of their beautiful images…. seriously- it’s going to be hard to narrow not post ALL of them, they are all so gorgeous!
