I don’t have too much to say about this session except for: BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! My goodness, look at this little monkey. He was adorable. I had not seen him in quite a while, I think it’s been since November of last year. Needless to say, I hardly recognized him when he came toddling out to see me… so precious. Great session and beautiful images.

Miss Molly is not too sure about this tutu…

What she IS sure about are the TWIN little boys that will be coming into her life soon! This image (below- click to enlarge) doesn’t indicate 8 pounds of babies inside her adorable belly… but they’re in there, and I can’t wait to meet them!

There is no pleasant way to ease into this kind of post among all of the other happy posts that are are more common here, so please just be advised that this writing contains sensitive and sad material.

It’s been over 2 months since I went to Children’s Hospital and photographed baby Jonathan. Jonathan was not expected to live much longer at that time, he was 7 weeks when I met him, when I documented his precious spirit and his family’s immeasurable love for him. Without going into the details of Jonathan’s short life, I want to share a story.

Photographing a desperately ill child was not something that I had done before, it was something that I had heard of, that I knew other photographers offered, and that I admired these other photographers for the strength that they had to provide that service. Jonathan’s grandmother contacted me one day, she had come across my website via an internet search. I had no idea then how deeply her family’s situation would touch my life.

A few days later, I went to photograph Jonathan. He was perfect. He was a perfect little boy who, among other challenges, could not breathe on his own, and he was beautiful. I captured who he was, photographed him with his loving family, talked with the family and left. It was sad, but I knew that I was giving them something that they otherwise would not have had in the same way: documentation of their son (and grandson), once he was gone.

After photographing Jonathan and his family, I came back to the office to promptly process the images, as I did not know how much time Jonathan had. He got his little wings just 3 or 4 days later.

When told that he had passed, I cried, but it was not until over a month later, that I actually FELT the sadness and was able to come to terms with it. Despite not knowing Jonathan and his family personally for a length of time, I felt a shocking connection to their lives, and the sadness in all of it’s entirety hit me. I felt an intense connection with them that didn’t really surface as soon as I was told that he had passed. It took time.

As I thought more about the situation in it’s entirety, I knew that what I was giving this family was nice, that it would be special to them. But I did not know *how* special and I did not know… what… it meant entirely. I couldn’t know.

It is not easy, but child remembrance photography is something that I will now offer. There are a few websites that deal with this type of service. The two for which I have applied to be a supporting photographer offering services are:

http://nilmdts.com/ and http://www.acpcg.org/

I am not yet listed on either site, and my name may not appear there for months, but these services are available effective immediately. For any extremely prematurely born baby or desperately ill child, on request, I will go to the child, either in their home or at the hospital and document their spirit, body and soul. From these sessions, a CD of high resolution digital negatives will be provided for the families to print their own images at their discretion.

For years, I have enjoyed photographing healthy babies and happy children, however life reminds us that there are others in need, who will value the images of their children in a way none of us ever want to think about, because their babies don’t stay with them on this earth. Documenting those minutes, days, weeks, or years means more than anything else ever could to the families dealing with this devastating loss.
If you or someone you know is living daily life, with a critically ill child, please let them know that this service is available. The words of an strong, smart, and beautiful woman: “Anytime we can take a sad situation and turn it into
something positive, we are all better off.” I want to offer the gift of photography to families in need; offer them a way to remember their child, their family, as it once was. Every life matters, and every child needs to be remembered by their family. The images from these types of photography sessions can play a significant role in the mourning process, eventually coming to acceptance.

I thank Jonathan’s family- all of them- for the honor of inviting me into their lives, and for allowing me to share this story and a few images for the purpose of offering this service to other families in similar situations. Thank you; your family is in my prayers.

We had such a perfect day for this session. Like usual, hard to choose a few favorites, but here are a couple. :)

This little guy was just shy of 13 months. Images at this age- usually from about 12-14 months through around 2 years old have a very journalistic look, as (obviously) there is not much reason for these newly mobile little ones to to “sit still!” I love that about this age… the constant exploring, experiencing the world, everything!

As I write this, it is finally a beautiful day, not pouring rain, the sun is shining, I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

I have photographed these gorgeous girls since they were newborns, and it has been SUCH an honor to see them grow into these beautiful little two year olds that they are now. If you are a long-time blog follower, you may know this already!

Click the thumbnails below to enlarge. Little girls don’t get any cuter than this. And big brothers don’t get any sweeter…

He was SUCH a fantastic help to me during the session- the best he has ever been, and I appreciated his help so much. :)

All right. They’re gorgeous- that’s obvious. Kids are stinkin adorable. I love it. This was the most fun I (as the photographer!) have ever had during a family session. For endless reasons, they were SO relaxed, completely laid back and go-with-the-flow… the kids were perfection in just being themselves and not having a “must smile for camera” mindset- it was just wonderful. Here are some of my favorites from the many, many, many images resulting…

To me, the reason that this session was insanely fun and more successful in having such a crazy sweet and fun real life feeling was because it was SO unexpected… Unexpected to wear nice, normal clothes to the beach and to end up an hour later completely drenched in those same clothes!! I could have photographed this family for HOURS, I tell you. Seriously.

The husband and kids gave in easily to being drenched in their clothes. The mom held back for a while. At one point, she was crouching down in the water, trying to keep herself from getting her pants wet above the knees. It was hard for her, she looked a little akward, trying to be in the water with her family but not get too wet, and as I was photographing them from up on the beach, I just couldn’t take it any more. “Just do it!” I yelled… She looked at me, plopped down, and we had so much fun.

I must also say that this was the winner of last December’s free session and half off a session album or proof collection if they choose to purchase it.

Keep your eyes on the blog this November/December for equally fabulous thank-you’s and giveaways. :)

This was one TINY sweet, itty bitty baby boy. I always say that I get “big babies” more often than little… well, times are changing! These past few newborn sessions have been with TINY little ones, and I love them all!! As someone who has personally given birth to a nearly 10 lb baby (that’s right- not a typo!) I have a special appreciation for photographing ANY baby that is littler than that! :)

Newborns are just heavenly. Absolute bliss. They are such little joys, each in their own special way. Meet baby T:

Many clients received a newsletter on Tuesday explaining that they have priority scheduling and access to a fabulous collection if they book their premium or all-inclusive session before Tuesday, August 14th. The calendar will be only open to previous clients until the 14th. Last year we had to decline a few sessions in October & November. We can only do so much!! Even with the help that I have now compared to last year, I urge you to schedule your fall or holiday session in the coming weeks.

These premium and all-inclusive sessions available to newsletter recipients include everything that you want in a fall/holiday session…. gift prints, a wall enlargement credit, holiday cards, a session album, and even (the perfect grandparent gift) some mini storyboards. The all-inclusive session offers a weekend session as well.

The newsletter was sent to clients I have seen in 2007, however if for some reason, you are reading this and did NOT receive that newsletter, please email me asap and I can send one off to you. I want previous clients to get their fall/holiday sessions as desired.

New clients calling now to schedule may receive a call or email upon the 14th to schedule at that time.
